Jun 18, 2024

slovakia stun belgium at euro 2024

Slovakia have pulled off a major upset at Euro 2024…with a 1-0 opening win over Group E favourites Belgium.

The Belgians were unlucky not to get a goal…with Romelu Lukaku having two efforts ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee.

Another Group E tie saw Romania open their campaign with a 3-0 win over Ukraine.

It was their first victory at a European Championship in 24 years.

While France were made to work hard…needing an own goal by Austria to come away 1-0 winners in their Group D opener.

-

In other developments, Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer says he will decide on his future after Euro 2024.

This comes amid speculation the 38-year-old is considering his international retirement, after recent battles with injury and a drop in form.

-

A Spanish court has ruled that former Spain FA chief Luis Rubiales will stand trial in February next year…on charges of sexual assault for kissing a female player without consent at last year’s Women’s World Cup.

-

All three Malaysian reps have suffered early exits in the men’s individual recurve event, at the archery Olympic qualifiers in Turkey.

They had earlier also failed to advance in the team event.

This means we’ll not have any male competitors in the sport at the Olympics for the first time in 16 years.

-

And, F1 driver Valtteri Bottas has rubbished rumours of a potential return to Mercedes, even if he ends up losing his current seat with Sauber next season.
