Tottenham started their EPL campaign with a 1-0 home win over defending champions Man City.

Spurs were without their unsettled star striker Harry Kane, but Son Heung Min stepped up to score the winner in the 55th minute.

It was the perfect start to the season for new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The result also means City have now lost on their last four visits to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in all competitions.

Meanwhile, West Ham had to fight back twice to pull off a highly-entertaining 4-2 win over Newcastle.

Barcelona began their post-Lionel Messi era with a 4-2 win over Real Sociedad in their La Liga opener.

It was the first time in almost two decades the Catalan side were starting a season without their long-serving star player, who signed for PSG last week.

Meanwhile, champions Atletico Madrid kicked off their title defense with a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo.

He is widely regarded as one of the game’s greatest goalscorers, netting 68 goals for the former West Germany…including the winner in the 1974 World Cup final against The Netherlands.
