Govt Eyes Framework For Sporting Excellence

Aug 12, 2024

govt eyes framework for sporting excellence

The government will come up with a new framework to improve the performances of our national athletes in the future.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this following the Paris Olympics, in which we earned two bronze medals through badminton.

He adds that people should NOT complain about recent results, and consider the years of sacrifice and hard work put in by our athletes.

Meanwhile our Paris Games chef de mission says many of our athletes showed improved performances and must build on their achievements.

--

Malaysians have been urged to back off on their criticisms of the Japanese track cyclist that collided with Shah Firdaus Sahrom in the Paris Olympics Keirin final.

Shah Firdaus said this, after netizens reportedly bombarded the Instagram account of Shinji Nakano.

The Malaysian says netizens should avoid any actions that could hurt the country’s image globally.

The duo's collision ended Shah Firdaus’s hopes of winning a medal.

--

Also, Datuk Lee Chong Wei has called on netizens to tone down any criticisms of our Olympic athletes.

He says their comments should be constructive.

--

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk says so far the club has NOT offered him a contract extension.

His current deal expires in June next year.
