Malaysia has won the Merdeka Football Tournament, after a 1-0 win over Lebanon in the final.

Romel Morales netted the only goal of the game in the first half.

This is Harimau Malaya’s first trophy in 11 years and the first time since 2014 the national team have beaten a middle eastern side.

In selected Nations League results…Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner as Portugal came from behind to beat Scotland 2-1.

While European champions Spain had a comfortable 4-1 win over Switzerland despite going a man down midway through the first half.

The 2024 Paris Paralympics have officially ended, with the closing ceremony earlier this morning.

The Malaysian contingent placed 42nd in the final medal standings…with two gold, two silver and a bronze.

Jong Yee Khie was the last Malaysian in action…in the up to 107kg powerlifting event.

He finished seventh overall…missing out on retaining the silver medal he won at the 2020 edition in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, organisers say they sold a combined 12 million tickets for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, surpassing the previous record of just under 11 million during the 2012 edition in London.

World number one Jannik Sinner has won the US tennis Open…with a straight sets victory over Taylor Fritz.

This is the Italian’s second Grand Slam title of the year, having also won the Australian Open in January.
