Merih Demiral scored within the first minute, to help Turkiye to a 2-1 win over Austria in their Euro 2024 last-16 tie this morning.

It was the quickest knockout stage goal in European Championship history.

This is also Turkiye’s first Euro’s quarterfinal appearance since 2008.

They will next go on to face The Netherlands…who booked their place in the last eight with a comfortable 3-0 win over Romania.

It is their first appearance in 16 years at this stage of the tournament.

The BWF has pledged to review its procedures for handling emergencies, following the death of Chinese shuttler Zhang Zhi Jie at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

This comes amid complaints about the length of time it took officials to attend to the teenager, after he collapsed on-court.
