Nearly 600 complaints lodged over phone scams in the past 10 months

Dec 20, 2017

The Communications and Multimedia Ministry says nearly 600 complaints were lodged with regards to phone scams during the past 10 months.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Jailani Johari says the ministry is working to prevent such scams from happening.

He adds that the ministry will conduct an awareness workshop in the near future about the dangers of phone scams with PDRM and Bank Negara.

Meanwhile, the Association of Banks in Malaysia has urged members of the public not to respond to phone calls, SMSes or emails requesting for their personal details.

It says banks will not transfer calls to purported government agencies for the purpose of investigating a suspected case of misuse or other issues.
