China agrees with Malaysia to support cross-border land connectivity development
Jan 15, 2017
China has reportedly agreed with Malaysia to support the idea of developing cross-border land connectivity between countries in Asia.
The Deputy Prime Minister says Chinese officials are keen to look into a possible high-speed rail line between Bangkok and Kunming.
This would connect with the soon-to-be-constructed high-speed rail line between Singapore and KL and the proposed line between KL and Bangkok.
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi adds that passengers would be able to make it all the way to Beijing, as there is currently already a link between Kunming and China's capital.
Separately, a team of 10 high-ranking security officers will be sent to China in 2 months time, to undergo training and learn about their border control.
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid says Malaysia can learn a lot from China, which has borders stretching over 4,000 kilometers, with neighbouring Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
He adds that Malaysia is also hoping to get a transfer of technology from China for border control.
Malaysia currently just uses barbed wire fencing and a wall, compared to China, which uses drones, satellites and high definition CCTVs.
