Grok Restrictions Will Remain For Now
Jan 15, 2026

The govt is maintaining its temporary restrictions on X's AI chatbox Grok for now.
This, despite X making a few adjustments that prevent Grok from generating harmful or explicit content.
Communication Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil says it will only be lifted once X proves that there are no loopholes.
X had faced widespread international criticism after Grok was misused to make deepfakes of women and minors.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Cyber Consumers Association has hailed the temporary restrictions imposed on Grok.
It adds that the case highlights the need for laws such as the Online Safety Act, to ensure a safe digital space for all users especially women and minors.
