MoT Releases UPSI Crash Interim Report

Jul 18, 2025

mot releases upsi crash interim report

The Transport Ministry has released its interim report into last month's fatal UPSI bus crash in Gerik, Perak.

The report blamed speeding as the primary cause of the accident, which killed 15 students.

It also highlighted several contributing factors that stem from systemic problems within the public transport ecosystem.

This includes poor road design, a lack of safety features inside the bus, and governance failures that allowed the driver to get behind the wheel despite having over a dozen outstanding traffic summonses.

The report also recommended several major reforms to prevent similar accidents in the future, including improving road infrastructure, imposing stricter licensing controls, and adopting real-time vehicle monitoring.

Police have cleared the air on viral social media claims that two young children were found abandoned in Seremban recently.

The district police chief says the kids, who were found at a roadside, had simply left their home without their parents’ knowledge.

They had wandered off while the mother was working and the father was asleep at home.

Checks on the kids found no signs of injuries or abuse.

Cops also urged people to stop speculating on the incident as they have been reunited with their parents.

PDRM says 2,000 police personnel will be on duty to maintain security during the upcoming peaceful rally in KL.

Cops also said that for now there are no plans to implement road closures during the gathering, but that could change depending on further developents.
