Enforcement Of Bus Seatbelt Ruling Begins

Starting tomorrow the JPJ will strictly enforce the requirement for drivers and passengers on new tour and express buses to wear seatbelts.
This applies to buses built from January 2020…while older vehicles will be given more time to retrofit the seatbelts.
Under the new regulation….the driver and bus operator will be penalized if they fail to remind their passengers to buckle up.
Passengers who refuse to comply will also be fined 300 ringgit.

In a related development…a JPJ audit of commercial vehicle operators has found that 64 percent of these companies had failed to meet mandatory safety requirements.
This includes a lack of GPS trackers…failing to record drivers’ working hours…and not ensuring a break for every four hours of driving.

The Maritime Enforcement Agency has opened a full investigation into the fatal boat capsize incident in Pulau Perhentian, that claimed the lives of three people over the weekend.
This, after initial investigations showed that none of the passengers on board the vessel had worn life jackets at the time of the incident.
The boat company was also found to be operating with an expired license…while the boatman had tested positive for drugs.

The Health Ministry is continuing to take steps to address the country’s critical shortage of nurses, including increasing the number of trainees.
However, its asking for time to resolve the matter…admitting that recruitment remains a problem…as only a few are willing to take up available positions.

No Malaysians have been recruited into the militant network linked to foreigners…that was recently uncovered by local authorities.
The Home Ministry clarified that the group only involved Bangladeshi nationals…who were focused on toppling the government in their country of origin.
