Jun 26, 2025

Universities have been advised to conduct extensive safety and security screenings when looking for off-campus accommodation for students.
The Selangor police chief says cops are ready to meet with uni reps, to discuss appropriate screening measures.
He also told the NST that off-campus accommodations must have strict security measures, including logging all visitors to the premises, and having regular security patrols.
He said this following the death of a university student in Cyberjaya who is believed to have been murdered.
She was found dead with head injuries at a condominium unit that was provided by her uni.
Initial investigations have found no signs of sexual assault.
Meanwhile, cops have already obtained CCTV footage from surrounding areas, in hopes that it can help identify the suspect involved, and narrow down their possible location.
Also, the Higher Education Ministry has reminded public and private higher learning institutions to strictly follow the relevant SOPs to ensure the safety of their students.
It also reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders to maintain a safe and conducive environment for university students.
