Floods Worsen In Sabah

The number of flood evacuees in Sabah has risen overnight.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s portal, there are currently over 1,600 victims seeking shelter at six relief centers across the state.
Neighbouring Sarawak is also the latest state to be hit by flooding, with over 280 evacuees forced out of their homes.

The government will be implementing immediate intervention measures to stabilize the supply of bottled cooking oil in the market.
It’s to address the ongoing supply disruption caused by rising crude palm oil prices.
The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry says the intervention is essential to ensure adequate supply for the Ramadan, Aidilfitri, Kaamatan and Gawai festivities over the next three months.

Addressing domestic violence against women will be one of the key issues under the newly-launched National Women’s Policy.
The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says this is because of a rise in such cases…with over 5,200 incidents reported in 2024.
The policy will also look into other issues, including increasing women’s participation in the workforce…especially in decision-making positions within the public and private sector.

Authorities are being urged to stop the sale of vape-shaped candy in the Malaysian market.
The Consumers Association of Penang says these products could normalize bad and unhealthy habits among children, as it encourages them to mimic the action of vaping.
Similarly, the CAP is also warning about the presence of syringe-shaped sweets…which bears a resemblance to drug paraphernalia.

Malaysia has tightened security along the border with Thailand, following a deadly shooting and explosion in Sungai Golok last night.
Kelantan police also confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in yesterday’s incident, which killed two Thai security personnel and left at least eight others injured.
