Govt Working On Dummy Buckle Ban
Feb 17, 2025

The government is working on banning the sale of dummy buckles for car seats.
The Transport Ministry says it's currently in talks with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, which has jurisdiction over the matter.
This comes amid major safety concerns over the dummy buckles, which disable a car's seat belt alarm.
Recently, the Negeri Sembilan JPJ said that during the Chinese New Year period, 30% of summonses issued to motorists for not wearing seat belts were using such devices.

Separately, the Transport Ministry says the current ban on the use of electrical sockets on express buses will remain in place until authorities come up with clear safety standards.
The ban has been in place since November, when a teenager was electrocuted to death while charging his phone on express bus.
Investigations revealed that it was caused by faulty wiring.

School canteens will remain open for non-Muslim students during Ramadan this year.
The Education Ministry says at the same time, schools should offer guidance to non-Muslims on fostering mutual respect with those who are fasting during the holy month.
Ramadan is expected to start in early March, two weeks after the start of the new school session.

The Education Ministry has also reminded schools to follow its hot weather guidelines over the next few months, to limit the risk of health issues like heatstroke.
This, as MetMalaysia forecast hot and dry weather for most states, especially the northern peninsular, Perak, Pahang, and Kelantan from March until May.
