Altantuya Killer Escapes Death Row

Former police commando Azilah Hadri has escaped the hangman’s noose, over the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu. 

This is after the Federal Court accepted his bid for a review and commuted his death sentence to 40 years in prison and 12 strokes of the cane.  

He made the application following last year's abolition of the mandatory death penalty. 

During the proceeding, Azilah’s lawyers presented a letter from Altantuya’s father, supporting his application.  

Azilah was one of two cops convicted of the murder.  

The other, Sirul Azhar Umar fled Malaysia and is currently in Australia.

16 more GISB-linked individuals, including the CEO, have been held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act.  

According to Bukit Aman this means that 58 people are now being held under the act, which allows for them to be detained without trial for up to 28 days. 

Cops add that another 35 GISB members are still being held under remand, and 273 people have been released on police bail.

An association representing chicken breeders has played down concerns of a major spike in prices, IF the government removes its egg subsidy.  

The Selangor Poultry Breeders Association told FMT that the subsidy amount was not that significant, and any hike may only be capped at 3 sen per egg.

Meanwhile, a new report has ranked Malaysia as the 13th biggest consumer of eggs in the world, with the average Malaysian eating nearly 17 kilos of eggs per year! 

Japan and China top the list, which was published in the World Population Review website.
