Don't Confront Smokers Who Defy New Ruling

Oct 07, 2024

don't confront smokers who defy new ruling

Do not confront smokers who violate the new Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act.

The Health Ministry says it's best to just lodge a report and leave it to the authorities to take action, to avoid any potential conflicts.

It also assured that the Whistleblowers Protection Act will be used to safeguard those who report violations.

-

In a related development, the Ministry says it's issued over 86 thousand offence notices nationwide to smokers for lighting up at prohibited places, in the first eight months of the year.

Of that number, Selangor recorded the highest number of notices issued with nearly five thousand.

The PM has rubbished accusations, that the government had discussed changing the status of Islam as the religion of the Federation.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says neither this, nor topics about the special status of the Bumiputera or the position of Malay rulers, were discussed or even raised since he took office.

He also called on irresponsible parties to stop spreading lies that could incite hatred among the public.

Johor is the latest state to be hit by flooding, with nearly 800 evacuees seeking shelter at relief centers in the state.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s portal there are also around 300 evacuees each in Perak and Kedah, while Selangor has just under 250 victims.
