Northern Flood Update

At last look, around 6,800 people were still affected by floods in 4 states.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s disaster portal, just over 6 thousand people were housed at temporary shelters in 7 districts in Kedah.
Almost 580 people are displaced in Penang, and there nearly 120 in Perlis.
Another 100 people are seeking shelter in Kuala Selangor.

Two groups have come out against a proposal to reintroduce centralised exams for Year 6 and Form 3 pupils.
The Parents Action Group for Education says such a move would be a step backwards, so soon after the abolition of the UPSR and PT3 exams.
It told FMT such exam systems tend to neglect students that are less academically inclined.
They are also stressful for students, parents and teachers.
The National Union of the Teaching Profession agrees, and instead called for a more comprehensive system that involves both classroom assessments and end-of-year exams.

The Law and Institutional Reform Minister has backed calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the alleged abuse of hundreds of children at care homes linked to GISB.
Suhakam proposed such an RCI, saying its findings would help lead to better laws to protect children.
