Cops Take Cautious Approach During Shootouts

The Home Ministry assures that the police take every possible step to reduce the risk of civilian casualties, whenever they are forced to open fire in public places.
It said this following a shootout between cops and an armed robbery suspect near Bandar Sunway.
The suspect was shot and killed, but no members of the public were injured.

The government is reviewing the relevant law, to give a second chance to some individuals listed under the nation’s Criminal Registry.
The Home Ministry says if approved, the amendment will remove certain individuals from the list, including reformed criminals, those who have been investigated in criminal cases but were not charged, and those given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.
This will give these people a second lease on life, because being on the list makes it hard for them to get jobs or start businesses.

According to police figures, 1,768 road accidents were reported nationwide yesterday, with 5 deaths.
Since the start of August, there have been 36,000 accidents and over 280 fatalities.

The Higher Education Ministry is working with educational institutes to identify students who have become account mules for scammers.
It will also conduct awareness programmes on the dangers of allowing their accounts to be used by syndicates.
