The KL and Putrajaya Health Department wants more to be done to prevent the spread of hand, foot, and mouth disease.

It recommended that nursery and kindergarten operators conduct screenings at entry points, to ensure only kids without HFMD symptoms are allowed to enter the premises.

It also hopes Malaysians will continue to practice good personal hygiene as a precaution against the disease.

This, after KL and Putrajaya reported over 6,000 HFMD cases in the week ending Saturday, May 21st, which is 14 times higher than the same period last year.

Starting tomorrow, immigration offices at UTCs in the Peninsular will operate until 10pm, to facilitate passport applications and renewals.

Authorities say however, offices at UTCs in Terengganu, Perlis, and Pahang will only operate until 6pm, due to a slow demand for passports there.

Meanwhile, Malaysians are advised to refer to the Immigration Dept’s official portal to avoid congestion at such premises.
