Malaysia gets a new King

The Sultan of Pahang, Al- Sultan Abdullah is our new Agong.

According to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, he was elected as the16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a 5-year reign.

The new King will be sworn in on January 31st.

Meanwhile, Sultan of Perak has been elected as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Government may enact anti-stalking law

The government is looking into the possibility of enacting anti-stalking laws in the country.

Datuk Liew Vui Keong says stalking should be classified as a crime, because it can make someone feel unsafe and threatened.

The Minister in the PM's department says several countries, including in Asia, had such laws already in place where action can be taken if there are complaints filed.

He adds that stalking can stem with harassment through messaging platforms, social media, telephone calls and emails.
 

Penang Fire and Rescue Department to work with fishermen

The Penang Fire and Rescue Department wants to set up volunteer teams among fishermen to deal with the recent suicide incidents at its main bridges.

It says this is because most of the suicide victims were rescued by fishermen.
