No Malaysians involved in Mecca suicide bombing

Jun 25, 2017

Wisma Putra says no Malaysians were involved in Friday's suicide bombing in Mecca.

However, it adds that it will continue to monitor the situation there, through the Malaysian consulate-general in Jeddah.

The Foreign Ministry has also asked Malaysians in Saudi Arabia to contact the consulate for emergencies or information.

The incident, which happened around the Grand Mosque, had injured 11 people, including 5 police officers.

This, as Malaysia has condemned the suicide bombing attack.

Both the Prime Minister and Wisma Putra have expressed their sympathies to the injured, as well as the Saudi government and its people.

Meanwhile, Iran has also condemned the attack, and has offered Saudi Arabia its assistance in tackling terrorism, despite their severed ties.

Security forces in Iran have also arrested members of a group linked to IS militants, which planned attacks in religious centres.
