An estimated half a million Malaysians have Hepatitis C

Jul 20, 2017

An estimated half a million Malaysians have Hepatitis C, but most are not even aware of their infection.

The Health Ministry says incidences of Hepatitis C have more than doubled between 2009 and last year, although the actual situation could be a lot worse, as not everyone is tested for the condition.

The prevalence of the condition, will also mean more people will end up with liver complications like cirrhosis and cancer.

This is why the Ministry is stressing, that efforts to identify at-risk patients need to be accelerated, while treatment also needs to be made more affordable.
