Heart disease, the nation's number one killer

Sep 29, 2017

Heart disease is the nation's number one killer.

President of the National Heart Association of Malaysia, Dr. Ng Wai Kiat says there is a misperception among Malaysians that only certain people can be affected by the disease.

However, Dr. Ng says even passive smoking will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, as smoking damages the lining of the blood vessels.

In conjunction with World Heart Day today, he has encouraged Malaysians to make daily changes like starting a healthy diet, exercising, and avoiding smoking.
