This year's haze not expected to be as bad as last year's

Aug 30, 2016

This year's haze is not expected to be as bad as last year's, as El Nino has ended.

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry says despite the dry weather, several areas in Malaysia are still receiving normal amounts of rainfall.

However, it has taken steps to manage the haze, including stepping up open burning prevention efforts.

So far, the ministry has detected over 2,300 cases of opening burnings, with most of them small open fires.

At 10am, Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, Shah Alam in Selangor and Putrajaya had unhealthy air quality.
