Higher Education Ministry meets law enforcement agencies over terrorism influence

Jul 12, 2016

The Higher Education Ministry has held its first meeting with law enforcement agencies to curb the influence of terrorism among students in varsities.

They discussed several matters, including adopting a multi-pronged approach to address the spread of terror ideologies among students and staff.

This, after it was revealed last week that some gunmen in the recent cafe siege in Dhaka, Bangladesh reportedly studied in a private university in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the National Defence University of Malaysia says breaking students into smaller groups can help monitor their movements and prevent their participation in militant activities.

It is currently implementing the model, with 3,000 students broken up into several battallions led by a student leader.

UPNM says the move makes it easier to detect problematic students.
