Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia temporarily ban Samsung Galaxy Note

Sep 11, 2016

Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia have temporarily banned the use of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on-board their flights.

This, after Samsung suspended sales of the Note 7 and issued a global recall, following reports of battery cell issues.

Both airlines say passengers are not allowed to turn on or charge their Note 7 on-board, and the device is not allowed in checked baggage.

Other airlines, including Qantas, Virgin Australia, Etihad and Singapore Airlines had earlier issued similar warnings.

Meanwhile, Samsung has urged consumers to stop using the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones immediately, as more reports of the phones catching fire emerged even after its global recall.
