Authorities cracking down on tower crane operators

Sep 06, 2016

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health, DOSH, has been cracking down on tower crane operators who use fake certificates and competency licenses.

The move comes after a woman died when a crane hook fell on her car in KL last month, due to negligence.

DOSH told the Star, its officials found 47 tower crane workers using fake competency licences in Johor alone.

Construction sites found to have tower cranes operating illegally will be ordered to stop work immediately.

It is also changing the certification system to include QR codes that can be scanned with phones, to minimise tampering.
