The abduction of a German citizen 2 days ago did not occur in Malaysian waters.
The Eastern Sabah Security Command confirms, the kidnapping by Abu Sayyaf happened in Philippine waters, near the Tawi-Tawi chain of islands.
The 70-year-old German was taken by the militants, while his female companion was killed.
The duo been heading towards Zamboanga, despite being warned the situation there is unsafe.
