Haze hits Johor, Singapore
Aug 26, 2016
The haze that is hitting Johor and Singapore is due to smoke from a number of hotspots being blown in from Sumatera, Indonesia.
However the Dept of Environment told us, the current haze is only temporary and it will not be as bad as the situation last year.
Singapore's 24-hour Pollution Standard Index was borderline-unhealthy this afternoon, with people in the republic reporting hazy skies and a burning smell.
Meanwhile, the API in JB and Pasir Gudang were at moderate levels as of 3pm, at 65 and 71 respectively.
The DOE says that despite the hazy conditions in southern Johor, the air quality reading remains at moderate levels beause the API takes into account the air quality in the area over the past 24 hours.
