Govt considering importing more seafood from overseas

Oct 19, 2016

The government is considering importing more seafood from overseas, to offset possible price increases following the high tide phenomenon in the country.

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry says at the moment, seafood supplies are limited as high tide makes it more dangerous for fishermen to ply their trade.

Meanwhile, the number of people evacuated due to the high tide phenomenon in Selangor and Kedah remains unchanged.

In Selangor, just under 500 people are seeking shelter in Klang and Sabak Bernam, while there are 94 flood victims in Kuala Muda, Kedah.

Also, the National Disaster Management Agency says another major high tide has been forecast from the 13th to the 17th of next month.
