5 Malaysian hostages are on the run with their Abu Sayyaf captors in the mountainous jungles of Jolo, amid an intense battle between Philippines military and the gunmen.

A Jolo anti-kidnapping activist told the Star, the 5 Malaysians are among 13 Abu Sayyaf captives constantly on the move in the jungles of the sourther Philippine island.

They were kidnapped from a tugboat off Lahad Datu in mid-July.
