KPM Highlights Anti-Heavy Bag Measures

Feb 01, 2026

kpm highlights anti-heavy bag measures

The Education Ministry has completed the delivery of 400,000 lockers to primary schools nationwide.

It told FMT they were distributed since the programme was announced four years ago.

The ministry announced the measure amid complaints of primary students being forced to carry heavy school bags.

Besides this, the ministry says it is taking other measures to deal with the issue, including implementing digital textbooks and restructuring school timetables.

The Higher Education Ministry says it will take time before it can assume oversight for Form 6 and Matriculation programme, as outlined under the new Education Blueprint.

This is because the relevant laws need to be amended first, before it takes over the programmes from the Education Ministry.

Its minister also assured that the transition will be carried out gradually, to avoid disrupting students.

Further info on the timeline will be announced in due course.

The PM says the country's modernisation must be shared equally, with no group left behind.

According to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, it's because the nation's development cannot be measured solely on its physical infrastructure, but also by the wellbeing of all its citizens.

In conjunction with Federal Territories Day, Datuk Seri Anwar also reaffirmed his government's commitment to compassion, mutual respect, stability and collective wellbeing.

Meanwhile, the PM has extended his Thaipusam greeting to the Hindu community, saying it teaches the importance of sacrifice, spiritual strength and the value of patience.

The DPM and Cabinet members also extended their Thaipusam greetings.
