Floods Worsen Nationwide

floods worsen nationwide

The flood situation nationwide has worsened.  

According to the Social Welfare Department's portal, the number of victims displaced has risen to nearly 11 thousand.  

Kelantan remains the worst affected, with almost 8,500 evacuees at relief centers there.  

Meanwhile, a further one thousand people are seeking shelter in Perak.  

The remaining victims are displaced across Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, and Selangor.  

Earlier, Met Malaysia issued a danger level warning for continuous heavy rain in several states until the 26th. 

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Committee is also reminding residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, and to obey evacuation orders.

Malaysians below the age of 16 will be barred from creating social media accounts starting next year.

The Communications Ministry says all platforms will be mandated to deploy eKYC to authenticate a user’s age during account creation.

Such verification will rely on official identification, including MyKad, passports and MyDigital ID.

This, as part of efforts to strengthen online safety for minors nationwide.

The move follows in the footsteps of a similar age restriction announced in Australia.

The government says the Next Generation Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 system is not a new project.

The Communications Ministry explained that it's merely a continuation of the system which has been operational since 2007.

The Election Commission has dismissed allegations that its enforcement team is conducting targeted surveillance on certain candidates during the campaign period for the Sabah state election.

And, in the US, an older adult in Washington is believed to be the first human to die from the rare H5N5 strain of bird flu, although state health officials have assured that the risk to the public is low.
