What Caused The Putra Heights Blast?
Jun 30, 2025

The Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion was due to environmental factors.
In its technical report, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health said it was mainly caused by unstable ground conditions, due to water accumulation within the soil.
The unstable ground weakened the pipe's structure, due to cyclic loading – or repeated stress or strain on the pipeline's surface.
This led to physical failures at parts of the pipe, causing the gas leak that that triggered the explosion.
Meanwhile, the police confirmed that there were no elements of negligence or sabotage.
The Selangor police chief says investigators ruled out the involvement of nearby construction activities.
Its probe found that all the necessary SOPs were being followed, while no contruction activities were conducted at the time of the incident.
Also, the Selangor govt will set up a special committee to come up with measures to ensure that such an incident never happens again.
The blast, on the second day of Aidilfitri, destroyed 81 houses while 130 others suffered varying levels of damage.
