The Gig Workers Bill is finally set to be tabled in Parliament next month, after delays since last October.

The Prime Minister is hopeful that this will address the shortcomings faced by those in the informal work sector, as well as strengthen protection for them.

The Bill is expected to provide a clear definition of gig workers, as well as spell out reasonable compensation standards and improved social security measures.

In a related development, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has introduced the new Madani Workers Card…allowing some one million union members to enjoy discounts of up to 30 percent on essential goods and services.

Further details about the card will be announced soon.

There’s been an upward trend in kids diagnosed with autism, compared to other categories of individuals registered with the Welfare Department.

According to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry…nearly 60 thousand kids with autism have been registered as of December last year…most of whom were in Selangor, Johor, KL and Sabah.

The ministry says the rise means it is crucial that early intervention and aid programs for this group be improved…to ensure they receive the necessary assistance.

A five year old kindergarten student in Johor has died, after allegedly being left alone inside a school van for several hours.

The van driver has already been detained, and is now being investigated for negligence.

Elsewhere, a state of emergency has been declared in parts of New Zealand’s South Island after strong winds and heavy rain caused floods, landslides and flight cancelations.

Meanwhile, Israel has also declared a national emergency after some of the worst wildfires in its history destroyed over five thousand acres of land.
