Mar 03, 2025

ismail sabri now a suspect in macc probe

Former PM Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is now a suspect in the MACC's ongoing corruption probe, and not just a witness.

As such, chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki says the MACC will call him up for another round of questioning later this week.

Azam also said that the commission opened its probe based on reports and information that it received, and is not politically motivated.

The MACC's investigation focuses on the spending and acquisition of funds for promotional and publicity purposes during Ismail's tenure as PM.

The commission has seized RM170 million in cash, as well as jewelry and gold bars following raids on safehouses linked to his former aides.

13 bank accounts have also been frozen as part of the probe.

Social media users will be given a platform to challenge the MCMC's orders to take down their content.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching says such a tribunal would allow content creators to defend their posts...

She was addressing concerns that the govt's social media licensing rule could be used as a tool to silence its critics.

The govt's QR system for immigration clearance along the Johor Causeway will be expanded to cars this year.

The DPM said this, following the successful implementation of the QR system for bus passengers and motorcyclists.

The PM’s Office says its newly introduced daily briefings focus on the prime minister's daily activities, key developments, and directives to ministries and agencies.

It said the briefings do NOT overlap with the duties of government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil, whose role is to ensure that cabinet decisions and policies are effectively communicated to the public.

The Penang Health Department says it's conducting its own internal investigation into a hospital's medical officer who was accused of indecent behaviour at work.

The doctor, who was arrested last week, has since been released on police bail after his remand expired.
