Spike In Job Scams Targeting Senior Citizens

There's been a sharp increase in job offer scams targeting senior citizens.
Police say the number of cases recorded last month alone was more than double the amount the whole of 2022.
In fact, nearly one thousand companies and businesses are being investigated for suspected fraudulent activities.
As such, cops are urging the government to refine the existing procedures to better address the issue.
In the meantime, senior citizens are advised to be vigilant, especially against online part-time job offers requiring upfront payments.

The Perak government will enforce a strict three-day ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol during the Ipoh Thaipusam celebration.
The ban will be imposed from February 10th to 12th along the chariot procession route.

Meanwhile, seven roads around Batu Caves will be closed in light of the festivities there.
Police say the roads will be closed in stages from midnight on Sunday to February 14th as part of efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow in the vicinity.

In a related development, KTMB has announced a ban on passengers bringing their bicycles onboard Komuter trains during the Thaipusam period.
The ban – which applies to all types of bikes – including foldable ones – will be in place from February 9th to the 12th.

Istana Negara has confirmed that His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim The King of Malaysia, has left the country for medical treatment overseas.
In an official statement, the palace says the matter has already been conveyed to the Conference of Rulers and the federal government.

The first phase of applications to enroll in public higher learning institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session, will open via the UPU Online system on Monday.
The Higher Education Ministry says it is applicable for foundation, certificate, diploma and degree programs.
