one killed in bentong chopper crash

The Civil Aviation Authority has started a formal investigation into this morning's helicopter crash in Bentong, Pahang.

It says the probe, by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau, seeks to determine what caused the crash.

Bentong District Police Chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar confirmed that an Indonesian engineer was killed after being struck by the chopper's debris.

However, the pilot was rescued by emergency personnel and escaped unhurt.

Earlier reports said that the chopper was attempting to land when it crashed and caught on fire.

Wisma Putra says so far, our embassy in Washington DC has not received any formal notice about the planned deportation of around 400 Malaysians from the US.

It was responding to reports that they were among 1.4 million non-US citizens who received their final deportation notices under the Trump Administration's strict immigration policy.

The Health Ministry has played down claims of a rise in influenza cases in the country.

It says there has actually been a decline in cases of influenza-like illnesses at government clinics, while the number of hospitalisations for severe respiratory infections has also declined.
