govt to study impact of deepseek ai system

The government is studying the impact of China’s new open-source AI platform, DeepSeek.

The Digital Ministry explained that the platform's model must be examined carefully first, before it can be adapted for possible local use.

This, amid DeepSeek’s rising popularity, with many reporting that its AI model can rival, or even exceed the capabilities of other established platforms like ChatGPT.

The Health Ministry is willing to consider the possibility of a full vape ban in the country if necessary.

However, its current priority is to regulate and control the use of vape through strict measures instead.

The ministry adds that this includes methods such as mandatory product registration, which has already led to 80% of such products being removed from the market.

The MACC says several local celebrities will be summoned soon over their alleged ties to a financial consultancy firm, that’s accused of being a personal loan fraud syndicate.

According to Berita Harian, these celebs received payments of up to 400 thousand ringgit to serve as company ambassadors.

Separately, the NUTP is urging the Education Ministry to tighten SOPs governing third-party activities in schools.

This, after the MACC revealed that schools are being targeted by financial fraud syndicates conducting surveys and promotions for their businesses.

EPF members made some 13 billion ringgit in voluntary contributions under the fund’s top-up scheme last year. 

70 percent of contributors also did not touch the money in their Account 3 despite having the flexibility of making withdrawals. 

An official also told FMT about three million members who have reached 55 and are eligible to take out their entire savings are still keeping their money with the EPF to get better returns.
