Authorities Brace For 2nd Flood Wave

Dec 08, 2024

authorities brace for 2nd flood wave

Authorities are taking the necessary precautions ahead of a possible second wave of flooding.

The Education Ministry says it has already activated Ops Payung, to ensure that floods will NOT disrupt the ongoing SPM exams.

This, as the Science Practical exams start tomorrow.

Meanwhile, DPM Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi says the necessary assets and personnel have already been deployed to at-risk areas.

This, after MetMalaysia issued a continuous rain warning for Kelantan, Kedah, Johor, Perak and Melaka until Wednesday.

Also, the Health Ministry says it has detected over 10,000 cases of waterborne diseases among flood evacuees so far.

They mainly involved respiratory infections, skin infections and gastroenteritis, but the situation remains under control.

At last look, the Social Welfare Dept’s portal reported around 3,100 flood evacuees in Kelantan, Kedah, Johor, Perak and Melaka.

--

Elsewhere, Kelantan police have refuted viral social media posts, about an explosion and tremor being felt in Machang.

Cops reminded people not to share unverified info that could cause public distress.
