FOMCA: Be Careful of Rental Scams

Consumer group FOMCA is warning the public about the growing number of scams involving fake house rental agents.
It says these scammers often target foreign students, because they're unaware of local rental practices.
As such, the association is urging the government to step up efforts to educate the public about such scams.

Speaking of scams, police can now bar transactions and seize money from bank accounts suspected to be mule accounts.
Officials say this is possible due to amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code that came into force recently.
These amendments help prevent the money of scam victims from being transferred into other accounts.

The trailer driver involved in the crash where a collapsed container killed a 21-year-old woman in Penang has been charged in court for dangerous driving.
If convicted, he's facing a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison, a 50 thousand ringgit fine, and suspension of his driving license for five years.
