Tun Daim Zainuddin Passes Away

tun daim zainuddin passes away

Tun Daim Zainuddin has been safely laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetary in KL.  

This, after he passed away this morning at the age of 86, while undergoing treatment in hospital following a stroke. 

Meanwhile, PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim led the tributes for Daim.  

He expressed his condolences and said the government acknowledges Daim's contributions to the country, especially during his two terms as Finance Minister. 

Meanwhile former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he lost a good friend. 

Condolence messages were also made by two other former prime ministers, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.  

Other political figures also paid tribute to Daim, including Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and PAS leader Tan Sri Hadi Awang.  

They all highlighted his many contributions to the country.  

Among other things, Daim played a pivotal role in helping the country navigate the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. 

The businessman-turned-politician also served as an MP… was a former UMNO treasurer. 

He was also the chair of the Council of Eminent Persons…which was formed to reform the country’s policies after Pakatan Harapan’s historic election victory in 2018
