Race Is Not A Factor In Poverty Eradication

Oct 22, 2024

race is not a factor in poverty eradication

Race is never a factor in the government’s efforts to eradicate hardcore poverty.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged that Malay and Bumiputera communities represent the majority of poverty cases.

However, he assured the Dewan Rakyat that his administration's policy is to provide assistance to any Malaysian living in poverty.

He adds that as of this month, the govt has solved over 65% of registered hardcor poverty cases nationwide.

Also, the PM says the government has no objections to politicians being appointed to key GLC positions, so long as they are qualified.

They must also pass thorough background checks by institutions including LHDN, Bank Negara, the MACC and PDRM.

However, he pointed out that politicians are barred from serving on the board of GLCs in the financial sector.

The cause of yesterday’s bang and tremors in Ipoh remains a mystery.

This is after the Malaysian Space Agency rubbished social media claims, that it was likely due to the Orionids meteor shower.

It says meteor debris usually burns up and disintegrates in the atmosphere, and generally they don’t cause any ground-level impacts or noise.

The source of the explosion-like sound has yet to be confirmed, with authorities ruling out things like rock blasting, military drills or the sonic boom from a passing aircraft.

The Malaysian Human Rights Commission, Suhakam has urged the government to abolish caning as a form of punishment, as it violates fundamental human rights and human dignity.

This, after an inmate at the Pokok Sena prison died earlier this month, days after he reportedly serving his caning sentence.
