new tobacco/vape law comes into force

The government is firm on the new law regarding the sale and distribution of tobacco products and e-cigarettes to minors.

The Health Ministry adds that there will be no grace period for the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act, which come into effect today.

Among the new rules include tougher regulation towards products that would attract teenagers and kids, such as smoking products designed to look like toys.

Meanwhile, such products will not be allowed to be sold online, in vending machines, or at educational institutions.

In a related development, the Malaysian Medical Association has praised the cabinet’s decision to implement the act, adding that it’s a crucial step towards reducing the health risks associated with smoking and vaping.

However, it reminded that consistent enforcement is key for the act to be effective.

Life expectancy in Malaysia is on the rise!

According to new data from the Statistics Department, women tend to live longer than men, with an over 4-year difference.

Meanwhile, Selangor residents have the highest life expectancy in the country, with an average of 78 years!

On the other hand, those in Terengganu have the lowest average expectancy at just over 72 years.

24 suspects linked to GISB have been remanded again for five days.

The IGP says this includes relatives of the group’s top management, who’re being investigated on allegations of forced labor.

He adds that they were remanded again following a police report lodged by a victim in Cheras, who claims he was exploited and was not paid while working at the company.

Police have clarified that a recent viral video showing a man discharging a firearm in public was part of a crow-shooting operation conducted by the Subang Jaya council.

They add that the operation, which aims to control the crow population in the area, followed strict SOPs and only involved licensed firearm holders.
