Driving On Drugs: Govt To Plug Legal Loophole

Aug 06, 2024

driving on drugs: govt to plug legal loophole

The Transport Ministry wants to plug a loophole that allows people to escape serious penalties for driving under the influence of drugs.

It says currently, the law only allows such drivers to be prosecuted if they cause an accident.

If they are found to be high on drugs without causing a crash, they merely face a suspension of their license.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will announce the mechanism for the upcoming civil servants’ salary adjustment later this month.

Meanwhile, further details will be announced during the tabling of Budget 2025 in October.

With the adjustment, the PM says public servants should be motivated to work even harder for the benefit of the people..

Police are close to establishing the motive behind last month's kidnapping of a six-year-old girl at a Johor shopping mall.

The Johor police chief says this is after cops uncovered new leads in their ongoing investigation into the primary suspect, who was recently re-arrested for allegedly possessing child sex abuse materials.

Separately, cops have called on the public's help to find a missing 14-year-old girl in Petaling Jaya.

She was last seen at her family's home in Dataran Prima back in May.
