Meta The Most Compliant With M'sian Laws

Jul 25, 2024

meta the most compliant with m'sian laws

Meta is the best among the social media platforms when it comes to complying with Malaysian laws.

The parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has a compliance rate of 79 to 88 percent.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, however, says the other social media platforms are lagging far behind.

TikTok has a compliance rate of 76 percent…followed by Telegram at 63 percent.

X (formerly known as Twitter) was the worst, with a compliance rate of only 25 percent.

Despite the higher compliance rate…Fahmi adds that Meta still needs to improve the way it handles rising cases of online scams being carried out on Facebook.

Parents and the authorities are being urged to do more, to help prevent cases of missing kids.

Consultant Paediatrician and Child-Disability Activist Dato' Dr Amar-Singh says one of the ways is to teach kids about stranger danger, and what to do when approached by unknown individuals.

He says this should be taught to kids as early as two to three years old.

He said this in the wake of the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl in Johor recently, who was found safe on Tuesday.

The Department of Environment has detained two individuals, as part of the investigation into the odour pollution incident that led to water cuts in the Klang Valley this week.

Meanwhile, Air Selangor says more than 83 percent of Klang Valley areas affected by water cuts…have had their supply restored as of this morning.

And, the World Health Organisation is calling for greater awareness on water safety, in conjunction with World Drowning Prevention Day today.

Statistics show that nearly a quarter of a million people lose their lives to drowning every year, many of whom are kids between the ages of 1 and 14.
