Global IT Outage Causes Worldwide Disruptions

Jul 19, 2024

global it outage causes worldwide disruptions

Major IT outages are hitting industries across the world, with many institutions including airlines, banks, and media outlets affected.

Thousands of flights have been cancelled, while airports have become crowded.

In the US, emergency 911 services in several states have also been disrupted.

Many of those affected have linked the outage to Microsoft PC operating systems.

Cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike explained that a content update for its Windows hosts was to blame.

However, the American firm assured that Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted and that the situation is not a security incident or cyberattack.

Its CEO adds that the issue has already been identified, and they’re working on fixing it.

Meanwhile, MAHB says no Malaysian airport has been affected by the outage.

However, several airlines, including Air Asia and Firefly, have been hit.

It urged passengers to check directly with their airlines for updates and instructions on their flights.

Earlier, KTMB also announced that it was experiencing difficulties with its ticketing service.

The government is cracking down on cyberbullies.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says the cabinet has agreed to establish a special committee to address the issue.

The committee will focus on amending several laws to hold bullies accountable and take stricter action against social media platforms.

This, after the death of a local influencer and activist who was cyberbullied on Tik Tok before she was found dead.

And the Malaysian Examinations Council says the 2023 STPM exam results will be released next Tuesday.

Students can check the official website for their results starting from 11:30AM.
