Govt To Strengthen Personal Data Protections

Jul 04, 2024

govt to strengthen personal data protections

The government will soon table amendments to the proposed Personal Data Protection Act.

The Digital Ministry says these changes are needed to adress issues related to breaches and misuse of people's personal info.

Among other things, the amendments include making it mandatory for people to be informed of any personal data breaches.

The ministry also said that there has been a 40% increase in cases of personal data breach cases this year, compared to 2023.

--

The government will also table proposed amendments to clamp down on the use of mule bank accounts by online scammers.

It will penalise those who let accounts be used by others for illegal activities, while authorities will be allowed to seize suspected mule accounts.

--

The Auditor General's Report also revealed that the accounts for the MRT1 project have yet to be finalised.

It's due to unresolved discrepancies that were flagged in previous audits, in addition to incomplete documentation.

According to the Kelantan Health Department, a thousand people in Kota Baru have so far been screen for Typhoid Fever.

This, after 5 secondary school students there were confirmed to have the disease.

--

And the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department says around 20 people have been treated for nausea, due to a gas leak at the KLIA's engineering zone in Sepang.
