PM: We'll World Hard To Improve Competitiveness

Jun 21, 2024

pm: we'll world hard to improve competitiveness

The unity government has vowed to improve its efficiency to counter Malaysia's recent drop in the Global Competitiveness Ranking.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says his administration has identified the government’s strengths and weaknesses based on IMD’s report.

It will now work harder to make improvements.

Recent reports said that Malaysia fell to 34th position in the International Institute for Management Development’s World Competitiveness Ranking.

--

Meanwhile, International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz says the ranking was based on economic data from last year..

This includes the weaker value of the ringgit at that time.

The lower ranking was also due to government over-spending, which he blamed on the economic impact of the war in Ukraine, and a dip in electrical and electronic exports.

He expects our ranking to improve due to a strengthening ringgit and the subsidy rationalisation plan.

The government is looking at improving the relevant laws, to help authorities clamp down on cybercrimes like online scams.

The Home Ministry adds it will also beef up the number of personnel at Bukit Aman's Commercial Crimes department, which is responsible for investigating cybercrime cases.

--

And Penang police have set up a special team to monitor online content during the upcoming Sungai Bakap state byelection.

It will focus on people who play up the 3Rs of Race, Religion and Royalty.

This, ahead of the campaign period for the polls, which starts after the nomination period tomorrow morning.
