CAP: Stop Wasting Food During Ramadan

Muslims have been reminded to avoid wasting food during Ramadan.  

The Consumers Association of Penang says it's because typically, food waste typically increases by up to 20% compared to other months. 

Its president adds that out during last year's fasting month, up to 90,000 tonnes of food ended up in the trash.   

He adds that Ramadan is supposed to be a month of intense devotion, instead of wasteful spending.

The Health Ministry has launched a nationwide operation to inspect all food premises including Ramadan Bazaars.  

It's to ensure that they are complying with the relevant food safety regulations.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has refuted Human Rights Watch's allegations of overcrowding, torture and deaths at migrant detention centres.

He says the NGO did not provide any evidence to back the claim.. 

He adds that as of last week, there were 13,000 migrants at immigration detention centres, which is well below their maximum capacity.

MetMalaysia says most parts of the Peninsular and Sabah will experience temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius over the next 7 days.  

Meanwhile, 8 areas in Perlis, Kedah and Perak were under a level-1 heat alert today, with temperatures of between 35-37 degrees Celsius.

And American singer Eric Carmen has died at the age of 74.
