Mar 11, 2024

school canteens to stay open during ramadan

School canteens must remain open during Ramadan, which starts tomorrow.

According to the Educaiton Minister, it's to make sure that non-Muslim pupils have a proper place to eat during the fasting month.

Fadhlina Sidek says at the same time, schools must give proper guidance to non-Muslims, to foster a greater understanding between non-Muslim students and their Muslim peers.

Also, Prasarana says its bus, and LRT, MRT and monorail services will have extended peak-hour services throughout Ramadan,

It's for the benefit of commuters, especially those travelling to their destinations to break fast.

The National Unity Minister has called for a stop to the rhetoric about vernacular schools.

Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang says if it continues, it will undermine the spirit of unity and goodwill among the country's multi-ethnic community.

The minister pointed out that the issue has already been settled in the courts, which ruled that vernacular schools, and their use of Mandarin and Tamil are in line with the Federal Constitution.
